Monster EG?? How did this random name come about?
Back in the days when DC2 and EK9 Type R were still rare as kiwis and Dc5 were still brand new, having a B16a Powered EG "was" still cool. Within the group most Civic's were already
B18c Powered or Turbo charged.
At the time Jacky decided to start building up an EG from scratch. This Civic was originally an Automatic EG6 SIR. Instead of dropping the B18C in straight away, we decided to play with the B16a and see how far we can do with it and at the same time it was a good little car to do testing and tuning on.
Not for long, the EG was converted to manual running a Ek9 TypeR box and upgrade to TypeR Intake manifold, Spoon throttle body, Type R Cams and a secret ecu with Apexi AFC to adjust the tune with. While out cruising and racing, it was keeping up with a lot of the B18C and Type R. Having a Custom made EVo7 radiator shocked at lot of people back in those days but cooling and making the engine to run stage was to key to having steady power. And because of this, many can’t believe how strong this little Civic is and named it "MONSTER EG” this was the beginning!
But Jacky knows sooner or later this package won’t serve him for long, a B18C TypeR engine was purchased and ready to drop in. With the transplant it needed a new clutch and flywheel combo, so next thing was to hop in the car and head down to Speed Factor to collect parts.
This was how this Civic went from everyday day/street machine to an award winning and a hardcore time attack car build. ITB’s were still a UFO item which no one would touch before and still rare in the local scene, but there was a set of TWM ITB which will be MEAN to go with the engine transplant, but to maximise the ITB a heavy internal engine was needed to make it work. Engine was sent down to Speed Factor for the build. And since Jacky has gone so far with the "might aswell attitude" the whole car was rebuilt and refreshed

Body kit was supplied by Alfred from Speed Factory, with all bumpers, guards and spoiler that needed painting, the whole car was resprayed by AJ at Wheunpuai Auto finish since only the doors and the rear panel left to spray. It might be strange that the car was resprayed with the same colour but the paint job was mint! Black is always the Colour Jacky loved.

While waiting on the motor to be built over a long winter, the civic was trailered back to Honda Newmarket for suspension upgrade, interior upgrade and getting it ready for the engine install. Good things takes time! The engine came back in the summer of 2006 and dropped in straight away, then a good three months designing the layout and cosmetics of the engine bay and seeing what will look good and what won’t.

When the car was rolled out to Mid Year Auckland Autosaloon in 2006, surely it raised the bar of the Honda circle and local Honda scene, nothing like it has been done before, and there is alot of JDM and USM Style mix within the build. But HEY a well built race car, it’s a show car, isn’t it?
It walked away with 3 awards at the show which included Best engine bay, Best brake engineering and Best Honda. And at the” Final Battle” Autosalon sponsored by New Zealand Performance car stand, it walked away, unexpected with another four awards in Pro Class level. Maybe it was because it was the fact it was cover car of the month on the NZPC Magazine, but the car was surely built targeted at those awards.

In 2007 Monster EG entered Autosalon again along with the JTUNE TEAM's mix of Civic's and Integra’s. Evos and two best show buddy Pat and Ann FD3S "RX007" and Speed factory Alfred Chan’s Wide body Evo. At this show the interior was upgraded and small changes were made which has given another new look of the Monster. The car was rolled onto the Speed Tech dyno, run by Andre Simon which was the initial Tuner of the Motec M48 thats equipped in the Civic, with new extractor and exhaust put in for the show, the car was out of tune but still made a healthy 148kw at the wheels.
And what happen after the show? A new plan was made within the team and car is now stripped down for something bigger than ever.
Some say when it is finished it will be a mad machine but when does it finish or where does it end?
From building this car, we have learnt alot. From Engine building, ECU tuning, what works and what doesn't. All the development knowledge we have gained from this car is now shared among the group and customers cars.
There is no way you can find things out, until you try it yourself.
Believe what you believe in.
And HEY it's always a Trail & Error !
